But Amelia will face a surprise when her friendly neighbor becomes not-so-friendly. As Amelia and Mickey go head to head, Amelia must focus on winning back the hearts of her children.
She soon discovers she also must focus on winning the heart of a handsome firefighter who understands down to his soul the beautiful heiress who lives across the street is used to a life he cannot provide.

I just love Kristen Ashley’s books, I remember when I read The Will, was so caught up, with Kristen Ashley’s book, that I didn’t even read that it was a series. When I finished it and saw that Mickey’s books was next I burst laughing knowing I would be on an anxious state of mind until his books comes out.
This book was truly deep in a good way. When I was about the 17% of the book I had tears in my eyes(Tough I didn’t cry anymore), because I could feel all the emotions surrounding Amelia, and even when I’m not even near to those situations myself, the way the book was written took me there.
“I had to get some self-respect. I had to stop acting like an idiot, weak and selfish and stupid. I had to start looking out for me.”

She is a woman in her late forties, a not so careful but lovely mother and a deceived wife. The moment his husband cheated on her she falls apart. To became this hurt woman who is mad with herself, mad with her life and in range with her husband. Of course, soon to be ex husband. When life appeared to continue rolling without her she reel into self-pity and tried to do anything she could, for years, to announced the world the kind of person her ex husband is, seeking revenge in the only nastiest way she could do. Those actions led her nowhere. Her children’s didn’t want to be near her for all the bitterness coming through her pores, leaving her lonely and remorseful. She never laid it off on the kids, but she didn’t hide it from them. Years later she makes the decision to move to Magdalene, be the mother her kids needs her to be, amend her errors and give all the love, time and peace her kids deserves.

Alyssa stopped abruptly, causing me to crash into her, but she didn’t notice me. She had eyes only for Josie. “’ Cause our girl here is beautiful,” she declared. I drew in an audible breath. But she was not finished. “But she’s broken.”
In the way she met this hot and gorgeous firefighter, who results to be her neighbor. And suddenly she found herself wanting to be more than just a simple neighbor. But before, she has to accept herself. Gain confidence. And not for the hot guy but also for the future with her children. She meets Josie and Alyssa along the way. They are good friends and it doesn’t matter what destructive little monster image she has of herself, the girls are always by her side. And they see through looks. I just love how supportive they are with Amelia.
“Cause I know after doin’ it for a while and then gettin’ that kiss from you, you keep doin’ it, when I finally fuck you it’s gonna,” he leaned deep into me, “wreck you.”
I stared into his eyes and that got to me.
I wanted to be wrecked.

Pfft. Let me calm myself first. Okay, he is the hottest thing in planet Magdalene. Is the type of hero I not only adore but love? Yeah, pretty much; Hot, sincere, dedicated to his kids, invested in his work and caring. He has an ex wife… who is not right in her mind. Being the reason of why Mickey has problems with what he could offer to a woman, specially a woman like Amelia who was born in a gold spoon. But despise the feeling rollercoaster (an orgasmic one post angriness) he and Amelia had, they can’t help but fall for each other.
But I like they took their time doing it, it wasn’t a –I-like-you-now-kiss-me-forever. I love that they risk their hearts for what is growing between them, involving their children into it –even though there could be unexpected problems in the way- . And of course, they took a chance of a second love.
“You’d already given me everything I’d ever need just letting me sit at your dinner table with your family.”
This book was awesome. And I didn’t give 5 stars because it was a Kristen Ashely’s Book, but oh yeah, I so did it, because it has Kristen Ashely’s imprint in it. The language, description, places, emotions, and hotness with whipped cream on top. I think this is a story about a real life which includes trivialities and hurt and mistakes and a lot of remorse. But the beauty of the book was in hoe the pull out of that. How to continue their life, how they could change for better and not to let yourself, or someone else in the process. And proving that anything could be done if we just fight for it sincerely. Doesn’t hide the broken parts of what was left behind, of the two families trying to survive in life even when things aren’t just bubbles and sweet. So it had a little bit of everything; and obvious, a lot of fun. Common, Mickey is Mickey and Amelia can be a smartass. I can fully say this has been the best read yet for me in this year. So hands down, KA.
