My Opinion:
5 beautiful stars.
A Pound of Flesh is a book about a tutor in prison, and out of nothing she has a new student. A bad-boy sexy as hell. But, his actions are just rough and seem to be just another jerk in the room. But under that façade of a hard man there is a man hurting. Full of knowledge, and not as careless as the others portrait them.
As far as now, this has to be THE BEST BOOK I’VE READ THIS YEAR. (that right there just tell anybody who hasn’t read this book, that they really should do it ;D ) I really don’t have enough words to describe it.
I remember reading the blurb and I was totally on board, having never read a book with that type of style. And the cover is just precious. Has something in that union that captured my attention immediately. So it was right then on my TBR list.
Her eyes narrowed. “I’m not scared of you.”
“Oh, Miss Lane, don’t tease me.” He smiled sexily.
She stared at him for a beat before she sat back and crossed her arms. “And why should I be scared of you?”
Carter moved forward in his seat, releasing the smoke down his nose so it parted temptingly when it hit his top lip. “You should be scared, Peaches,” he murmured. “I’ve done things that would make your pretty little head spin, and, you being this close”—he gestured with his chin between them—“well, let’s just say”—his eyes met hers—“it just makes me want to be bad all over again.
Wesley Carter is a man who has had a rough life. He has been in and out of jail since he was a kid, obviously creating a certain profile, not so good, and finally arise as the bad boy of the prison. You don’t mess with him, or, he surely will mess with you later. At the age of twenty-seven, right now, he is about to o out of prison, but he needs to accumulate some points, and turn down a little that bad boy, cocky and jerk status. So that leads him to Kat Lane’s classroom… Even though he didn’t commit the crime for what was judged to him. That was his pound of flesh, his debt, his redemption.
Kat Lane, since the beginning, is presented as a woman traumatized by her father’s brutal death. She was so young, and she had to see how those guys out of the blue came over and murder her dad. Why she still alive? Because there was a young boy who was, casually, over there and decided that she needed rescue, even when she fought hard to go back with her father, even thought she was a complete emotional mess, and over all, a complete stranger.
"The two of them together was different. It was as raw, hot, and mind-blowing as always, but the desperation between them was so thick, Carter could almost taste it. As though reading his thoughts, Kat rode him harder, scoring his flesh with her nails, arching her back, taking him deeper, making his entire body burst into flames."
When Wesley goes out of prison, there is where the fun comes. Like, common Jackson, do you want to give me a heart attack at two am? I loved, LOVED, how they interact, and started learning and noticing lot of stuff about the other, and even from themselves!! I laugh, I got mad, I almost cry (although I don’t remember exactly but I may have cried one or two tears with these two) My heart was melting to the point I didn’t knew what to do. I surely want a relationship like these two, not exactly but the feeling, and I suppose that everybody who has read it has swoooooon and had swam in a lake of love. Not kidding. xD
I really want to talk more about the book, but I think its better that if you are interested in it, you just go and read it. The writing itself it’s so good I couldn’t literally take my off my tablet’s screen for hours till I finish the book. What I do can say it’s that fate always find its way. No matter if it happens during one day, weeks, or months or years, it will always take a place in your life.
A pound of flesh is a fresh start, a book where you don’t forget your past but embrace it. Acceptance. That’s the most important word in this book. Acceptance of themselves as how they are, who they can be and what they can bring not just for them but for others. I truly think this is a beautiful book, when you are reading it, it gives you this vibe that makes you squirm and sigh and really want a relationship like they have. I don’t have any to point out wrong, or anything that I didn’t like.
I remember one time a friend of mine told me that X book was good because the characters weren’t perfect, they have some issue and secrets and all of that, but I just didn’t agree, the book was so dark in a matter of feeling, and now I can totally tell her that this type of books that a character can develop a relationship without being the ordinary sexy know it all lead roles, but just a normal guy, who has do wrong but he is trying to overcome that, in the company of a woman that gives him home. A woman who supports him no matter what, and they both decide to go through that path together. There is beauty in love.
At the end, I just LOVED the book!!!! Every part of it was awesome, no doubt. Now I’m waiting for Carter’s friend book in the series, the books are totally standalone, no cliffhanger. YOU HAVE TO READ WES CARTER IN ALL HIS SEXY GLORY!! :DD
