Excerpt Reveal: Fighting Solitude by Aly Martinez

Blurb

I was born a fighter. Abandoned by my parents, I spent my life forging my own path—one guided by my fists and paved with pain.
Untouchable in the ring, I destroyed everyone who faced me, but that’s where my victories ended. Outside the ropes, I repeatedly failed the few people who loved me. Including my best friend, Liv James—the one person I’d die to protect.
Even though I didn’t deserve her, Liv never stopped believing in me. Never gave up. Never let go. After all, she understood what I’d lost, because she’d lost it too.
Liv was everything to me, but she was never truly mine.
That was going to change.
I lost my first love, but I refused to lose my soulmate.
Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting to be the man she deserves.
Fighting the solitude of our pasts.
Fighting for her.

EXCERPT

“Jesus Christ, Quarry! Calm down. You’re making it worse.” Till pointed toward the building where the woman I loved lay dead in a coffin.
Oh, God.
My eyes, tunneled by rage, flashed around the mob of reporters before landing on the front steps of the funeral home, where an even bigger crowd of Mia’s friends and family were watching me violently break down—again.
“I need to get out of here,” I mumbled, straightening my shirt.
“Good idea,” he replied, shoving me toward my car. “I’ll drive.”
“No. I want to be alone.”
“You can’t drive right now, Q.”
“Watch me.”
“You cannot be behind the wheel…” He carried on with some explanation, but I was more than done listening. The silence had never sounded so good.
Looking up at the sky, I sucked in a breath so deep that it caused my lungs to ache. I refused to release it though.
Don’t exhale.
Ignoring Till’s protests, I dug my keys from my pocket and folded into my car. Barely managing to squeeze around the relentless reporters, I started toward the exit.
This is not happening.
Don’t breathe.
My lungs were on fire, but it felt a hell of a lot better than what was going on in my heart, so I bit my lip and let it blaze—praying that it would eventually engulf me.
Glancing in my review mirror, I saw the cops rolling into the parking lot, but that wasn’t what made me stop. My breath left me on a rush as I slammed on the brakes the moment she came into view.
Liv was standing in the middle of the road, staring at my taillights.
Her big, brown eyes were as empty as I felt, and her face was painted with absolute anguish. Without out a single second of hesitation, I leaned over and pushed the passenger’s side door open in invitation. In a pair of heels and a short, black dress, she sprinted forward, not slowing until her ass hit my leather seat. Her door hadn’t even shut before I was off again.
After turning her cell phone off, she tossed it in the glove box. Mine quickly followed. She didn’t ask any questions as I pulled onto the highway in the exact opposite direction of both of our apartments. She didn’t want to go home any more than I did.
Our destination was unknown, and that alone made it infinitely better than the one we’d just left.
I drove.
And drove.
Then, when I was sick and tired of aimlessly driving, I drove some more.
With the exception of Liv flipping the radio on when the sun went down, we sat in absolute silence for over four hours.
Alone, yet still together.
Finally, around ten p.m., with an empty tank of gas and sleepy eyes, I slipped into a parking space in front of the apartment Liv and Mia shared. Liv didn’t delay in pushing the door open, but that’s the only effort she put into getting out.
Dropping her head against the headrest, she whispered at the windshield, “Her parents told me she left letters for us. We can pick them up whenever we’re ready.”
“I don’t want a fucking letter. She lied. She’s sorry. I got it. Nothing left to say.”
“Maybe it will explain stuff though. It might help.”
My angry gaze jumped to her, but she was still staring out the window.
“Will it bring her back?” I asked. “No? Then I don’t need a goddamn letter. Fuck that. Fuck her parents too. I don’t want shit from them.”
“They didn’t kill her, Quarry.”
“How can you say that?”
Her eyes finally met mine. “It was what Mia wanted. She signed the Do Not Resuscitate order, not them.”
“What the fuck are you doing here? Please, God, tell me you are not actually siding with them? Because, if I recall correctly, we both begged them not to give up on her. They didn’t give a shit about anyone. Liv, they didn’t even get a second opinion.”
“I’m not siding with anyone but Mia. She made a choice. We have to respect it.” Her expression was emotionless, even though her voice trembled.
“Respect it? Fuck her shitty choice. She should have respected me enough to let me have a say.”
She laughed without humor. “You never would have let her go, Q.”
I slammed the heel of my palm against the steering wheel. “You’re goddamn right I wouldn’t have!”
“She had brain cancer. It was going to happen one way or another. She knew it. And she made a decision. We don’t get to be mad about that.”
“Get the fuck out of my car.”
“No. Listen to me—”
“I’ll start listening the moment you stop spouting the bullshit her parents shoved down your throat tonight.”
She raised her voice for the first time all day. “It’s the truth!”
“It’s bullshit! All of it. How am I supposed to respect the fact that she lied to me for six months? Six fucking months that I could have used to prepare for this.”
“Oh my God, Quarry!” she yelled, exasperated. “Do you seriously think six months could have ever prepared you for this? I could have known since the day I met her and I still wouldn’t have been ready to lose her.”
“I could have tried! I could have spent that time devoted to being with her instead of traveling to fights. Jesus Christ, Liv, last weekend, I went out with the guys from the gym to play pool. The last fucking Saturday night of her life on this Earth and I was shooting pool with a bunch of assholes I can barely stand. Six months she kept the fact that she was dying a secret. Six. Fucking. Months. You’re right. I wouldn’t have been ready to let her go, but at least I could have figured out how to say goodbye. Instead, all I got was to squeeze her hand, say, ‘I love you,’ and then be escorted out of the hospital by security. Fuck!”
“That’s because you were acting like a fool and threatening her family! That was your choice!”
“Get the fuck out of my car. Now!”
“And it’s also the reason you got thrown out of the visitation tonight. Get your shit together or you won’t be allowed at the funeral tomorrow.”
“I don’t want to go to the funeral!” I shouted at the top of my lungs, making her flinch. “I don’t want there to be a funeral at all. Now, I’m serious. Get. The fuck. Out. Of my car.”
Through gritted teeth, she seethed, “You know what I’ll never understand? How you claim to be so in love with her, but in this entire conversation, I haven’t heard you say a single word that wasn’t about you. How this affects you. How this hurt you. Last time I checked, you aren’t the one being buried tomorrow.”
“I wish I were!”
“Fuck you! The world doesn’t revolve around Quarry Page!” With that, she jumped out and slammed the door.
I didn’t even wait for her to make it to the sidewalk before I was peeling out of the parking lot.

Cover Reveal: Wherever It Leads by Adriana Locke

Smooth. Sexy. Irresistible.

Those qualities equal only one thing.

Big. Freaking. Trouble.

Brynne Calloway knows that anything that seems too good to be true usually is. Fenton Abbott and his cashmere voice, Adonis body, and a magnetism like no other clearly falls into that category. But what’s life without a little risk?

It was supposed to be a rebound, an uncomplicated escape from reality. But nothing ever goes as planned. Fenton turns out to be so much more … in ways Brynne never sees coming.

Excerpt

I pull out a cute emerald green dress. I brought a bright yellow bikini that would look really cute under it. Tossing my things around in the suitcase, I come up empty handed. Staring at my luggage, I realize I don't see any of the five bikinis I brought.

Dashing into the closet, I look on the rack where I hung the red one up from yesterday.

Gone.

"That fucker."

"Who?"

I spin around to see Fenton leaning against the doorframe. His blue tie is loose, his jacket missing, his hair a mussed-up, yummy mess.

"The thief," I say, hands on my hips, trying to hide my desire to wrap my legs around his waist and kiss the hell out of him.

"We have a thief?" He watches me with complete sincerity, like he has no clue what I'm talking about.

"We do. And he seems to have a penchant for my bikinis."

"Huh."

"Yeah," I say, traipsing over to him. "And nobody likes a thief."

"You know what else nobody likes?" He shoves off the frame and wraps his hands around my waist, lacing his fingers together in the dip at the small of my back. "Girls that can't listen."

"I’ve never been a good listener,” I sigh dramatically. “I just make things happen ... like when my bikinis get stolen, I just call the concierge and have them bring me another one up. Something skimpy and very, very sexy.”

He smacks my ass, making me yelp.

“And I charged it to your room since you stole my others. Thief."

“Did you really have them bring you another one?” he chuckles, a sinful smirk on his face. He’s trying to figure out how to handle me, yet still get his way.

“No,” I give in, as his lips find the crook of my neck. “But I hadn’t ruled it out.”

"You're going to make me crazy, you know that?"

He brushes his lips to mine and, in a split second, has me forgetting all about the bikinis. I’m focused solely on getting him out of his suit.

Most Anticipated Books of 2016

Hello guys!! First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR!! It’s 2016, a new year for new books, new authors, and new brand series! Who's excited? I am *raise hand*

This is the first post of the year, and here I’ll share with you something super exciting, that I’m sure we all have been thinking about it; maybe making a list, on Goodreads, or with your reader friends.  So I hope you like it!

1.       Distraction (Underground Kings, #3)
by Aurora Rose Reynolds

I really like Aurora’s books, and this series it’s awesome. I remember when I read Until November, and loved it, and now? Now I can’t stop reading her addictive books.

2.  An Ounce of Hope (A Pound of Flesh #2)
by Sophie Jackson

I can’t even tell how much I want Max’s book. We’s book, the first one in this series, was my favorite book of 2015, so I can’t wait for this book. Sophie’s way to maneuver and reach our hearts with her writing it’s absolutely beautiful.

3.       Fighting Solitude (On the Ropes, #3)
by Aly Martinez

Oh, dear Quarry, how much I crave your book. Based on the emotional level of the previous two books, I think this will be a depressing book, but full of love, can you understand the feeling?

4.       From Sanctum with Love (Masters and Mercenaries #10)
by Lexi Blake

Our sexy Kai comes back with his own book in the Masters and Mercenaries series. If you are a person who likes action books, suspense, and BDSM theme books, I recommend you this series!

5.       The Score (Off-Campus #3)
by Elle Kennedy

So this will be Dean’s book. The “get-it-all” boy. I so want this book. I loved The Deal and The Mistake. I love when girls make it hard for them to get them, and Allie seems to be a pretty awesome leader character. Plus, Elle always makes me laugh with her books.

6. Appealed (The Legal Briefs #3)
by Emma Chase

Dear, Emma, I can’t express how much I expect this book. I LOVED Sustained, to the maximum level of loving in this world, and I laughed my ass off. So I’m expecting Appealed to be as same as good as the rest of this series!

7.       Legend (Real #6)
by Katy Evans

SEX-Y Legend is waiting to be release! Being honest, when I started this series it didn’t excited me, I liked one book, and then I didn’t liked the second one, but, something about it was still attracting my attention. So I gave it another opportunity when the third book was out, and I L-O-V-E-D it. Since then, I’ve been completely hooked up to this series. Sexy, dramatic, raw and explosive.

8.       An Act of Salvation (Acts Of Honor #2 )
             by K.C. Lynn

K. C’s books are addictive. Since I read Fighting Temptation I’ve been reading (stalking her) all of her books. Her men are HOT, and sassy (Like my dear Sawyer) and some of them make me laugh, some make my heart beat faster, other ones talk so sexy I can’t bear it, but all of them have a special place in my heart. (And of course, her ladies are awesome too) And I just know Nick and Katelyn’s story will be beautifully heartbreaking. I can’t wait for this book.

9.       F*ck Love
by Tarryn Fisher

Hehe And we arrived to the tricky book. I’m not a super fan of Tarryn, but I don’t hate her books, I just prefer to not read certain books. (I know, I’m ridiculous, my friends tell me that all the time, because they love Tarryn). But, F*ck Love’s cover and blurb are interesting, for some reason they are yelling to me to read it, so I’m gonna do it, and the best thing is that the book is live!

10.   Unseen Messages
by Pepper Winters

&

11.   Sebring (Unfinished Hero #5)
by Kristen Ashley

Everybody who knows me knows that I’m a major fan of Pepper Winters and Kristen Ashley. Both authors have different styles of writing, and they are in a completely different genre from each other. But I can’t stop reading them. Literally.

I have read almost all of Pepper’s books, with the exception of Twisted Together, because I just finished Quintessentially Q, the second book in Monsters in the Dark series. Her books are full of dark romance, drama, history and HOT alpha males that I just loved. And Jehtro is my favorite  dark man ever.  Some people may call them twisted, but I call them Sexy As F*ck. Just take my money!

The same goes with KA’s books. I have read a lot of them, not all, because I haven’t read all the Rock Chick series and few others here and there, but I do have re read a lot of them and, God, this woman has a lot of series and her books are really kilometer. But I don’t care, I enjoy all of her books and this Unfinished Heroes series is just A-W-E-S-O-M-E. KA’s alpha males are really possessive, incredible hot, and all male. I really came to love this type of romance books with her.

12.   Reaper's Fire (Reapers MC, #6)
by Joanna Wylde

13.   All Closed Off (Rusk University, #4)
by Cora Carmack

14.   Outsider (Exodus End #2)
by Olivia Cunning

15.   Until June (Until Her #2)
by Aurora Rose Reynolds

What can I say? I really love series haha And these are some amazing authors for anyone to read.

And last, but not less important, this YA debut authors are speaking to me through their blurbs. I’m not a super YA reader, but this books seems to be really entertaining, funny and interesting. So I can’t wait to read them and see how they are. I’m sure they will be as good as they sound.

1.       Liars and Losers Like Us
by Ami Allen-Vath

&

2.       The Way to Game the Walk of Shame
by Jenn P. Nguyen

And that was all; those are the books I'm dyiiing for. And tell me! One of your TBR books is in here? What books are you dying to read? Do you think you have a new favorite coming? (:
